If you have experienced sexual harassment, you do not have to cope with it alone. Sexual harassment can happen to anyone. Support is available both within the University and from external specialist organisations.

Specialist Support (external services)

  • SurvivorsUK: specialist support for men and non-binary people who have experienced sexual harassment or abuse.
  • Sexual Harassment at Work Helpline (Rights of Women): free legal advice for women who have experienced sexual harassment in the workplace.
  • Rape Crisis England & Wales: confidential helpline and local centres offering specialist support.
  • Galop: national LGBT+ abuse helpline and specialist support.
  • Respond: support for people with learning disabilities and autism who have experienced trauma or abuse.
  • Revenge Porn Helpline: UK service supporting adults (aged 18+) who are experiencing intimate image abuse, also known as, revenge porn.
  • The Cyber Helpline provides free, expert help for victims of cybercrime and online harm.

University support

For students

  • Sexual Violence Liaison Officers (SVLOs): are trained staff who provide confidential, trauma-informed support. If you would like a safe space to talk through your options, you can contact svlo@surrey.ac.ukor book in with an SVLO here.
  • Centre for Wellbeing: offers confidential counselling and mental health support for students.
  • University of Surrey Students Union (USSU): is a free confidential, impartial service where students can get advice and information on academic and personal issues, including advice on procedures and representation at hearings.
  • Communities Team: our communities teams are responsible for the general welfare and good conduct within the university's halls of residence.
  • Extenuating circumstances: if you feel your studies have been affected by what has happened you can consider applying for extenuating circumstances (ECs).

For staff

For both students and staff

  • Campus Safety: staff trained to respond to disclosures of sexual harassment and can advise on immediate safety and reporting options.
  • EDI team and Equality networks (e.g. LGBTQ+ Equality Group, Rainbow Allies, Faith and Belief Forum): spaces for advice, peer support, and advocacy.
